7/4/09
This Sunday, July 5th, we have a Summit Points Race and Ladies Challenge presented by Lightner's Tree Service and Dale Greenly/ Wayne Donoho. Coming to the track for her first visit with us is the event director of the Salvation Army of Carlisle, Pat LaMarche. Pat is from Maine where she worked TV and radio and in the printed media as well. She is coordinating the Quarter Aces/ Mile of Quarters fund raiser to be held during our All Chrysler Nationals presented by Carlisle Events on Friday July 10th. The goal is to have a mile of quarters along the service road in front of the tower from starting line to the 330 ft. stripe. Sixteen rows of quarters equals a mile, just a bit over $15,000.00! The business community and others in the Carlisle area have already committed about $4,000.00. Feel free to bring some quarters this Sunday or on Chrysler event next Friday. None of the Salvation Army fund raising parts of the program will not slow down the pace of the race action for the Chrysler Event. We will do this portion of the program while cars or going down track or during any down time and intermission. You will get your normal times runs and elimination runs in the books by 9:00 p.m. as long as the weather cooperates! A big thank you to Jeff Doster's Autos Unlimited and Larry Mummert/ Baughman's Auto Parts of York for sponsoring the event. Winner of Super, Pro and Street get an extra $100.00 to win their class. The runner-up get an extra $50.00!!! See you on Sunday at Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way!!!
6/28/09 Threatening weather greeted racers and race fans for the Carlisle Events all GM Nationals at Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way on Friday night. We did have a half an hour rain delay during the time trial portion of the race but we were able to complete all the class racing and match races scheduled by 9:00 p.m.
First, lets start with thanking all our sponsors who added money for winners and runner-ups in Super, Pro and Street eliminator. Graham Motor Company, Pontiac/ Buick/ Cadillac/ GMC truck dealer of Carlisle, John Potocki, Orange Aid roll bar padding/ Wheeleze wheely bar wheels of Hanover and Baughman Auto Parts and Larry Mummert of York added $450.00 to our racers. Next we want to thank our match racers, Mike Strickler who ran against Denny Walls and John Potocki who went up against Bill Foster. All these racers took turn winning rounds against each other. The super car shoot out cars did not come in the numbers we had hoped for but the three cars that did come were fun to watch and ran each other a number of times. We also threw in some different stuff for our race fans. Tre Brown, third generation drag racer from York Pa. ran his Reggie Murphy tuned junior dragster to several slightly under the 7.90 e.t index passes. Also Dylan Griffey and Wes Garman took the sleds to very low 6 second passes and were fun to watch. Lastly after Chris Powers went out early, he made several runs in his new S&W dragster to several low 4.7 passes. Two runs were 4.71 e.t. @ 146 mph. How about his last run, uncorking a great 1.03 60 ft. time. The car flies! The Powers guys still feel there is more in the car.
We had several special Guests, long time match racer, former world champion funny car driver Bruce Larson, father of the Pontiac GTO and great racer Jim Wangers and Brian Fuller co- host of the Two Guys Garage tv show. All were interviewed over the PA by our announcer Dave McMeans and myself during down time. Sadly Tommy Howes was unable to be with us but will return at another event soon. He's a great guy and everyone will enjoy having him with us.
Now to the race results. Current James Coyle Hydraulic Repair Super points leader Bill Wilkinson ran a dead on 6.83 e.t. to win over Bill Foster who broke out by one with a 6.05 e.t.
Todd Thoman was at it again. He's been here two times this year and has two wins. Borrowing Bob Carlson's "Batmobile" '79 Camaro, Todd was nearly flawless winning Keith's Pit Stop Pro defeating Larry Sweitzer in the final, Tammy Skelly in her S-10 took third.
In McNew's Automotive Street class veteran driver Dale Greenly won out over Chris Seaman. This was a close one as Dale was only one off the dial with a 9.66 e.t.
Bowhunter's Superstore Trophy class had the many time winner Wayne Donoho taking out Orville "Crazy Pap" Hardy, Jen Miller took third in her 455 Buick.
The Pro Stick guys showed up and they really put on a show. Pro Stick is a fan favorite every time these drivers hit the track! James Smith's slightly better light made the difference as he held off the hard closing GTO of Fred Leyland. Both drivers were one off the dial, Fred ran 5.96 e.t. @ 114 mph against a 6.61 @ 104 mph.
One of the really fun parts of our night wasn't about racing. We had a marriage proposal on the starting line at intermission. Jeremy popped the question of his girl friend of five years, Caitlin. She never saw it coming. We had the mike in front of them but you didn't need to hear anything they said to figure out that she said "yes". These two had their first date five years ago at the GM event right here at Quarter Aces. We wish the best to them. Don't know the wedding date though.
Again, a big thanks to all of our racers and race fans. We would also like to acknowledge the extra help from Dave McMeans in the announcers chair, he is definitely a big help to me, also Belinda Miller one of our sponsors jumped in to help in the food stand.
Don't forget next week we race on Sunday, July 5th, fan appreciation day $25.00 a car load! Also we will contest ladies challenge presented by Lightner's Tree Service and Wayne Donoho / Dale Greenly. Also we welcome a visit from one of our sponsors Cary Walton from NAPA Automotive of York. The Carlisle Events All Chrysler Nationals is coming soon, Friday July 10th. On that day we will have the Salvation Army fund raiser Quarter Aces/ Mile of Quarters. We will attempt to line quarters on the service road next to the track for one mile. Businesses and others have already committed to this worthy cause. Bring your quarters and come out and hang out with us on July 10th!!!
6/22/09 After about an hour delay from light rain showers earlier in the morning, we were up and running and turned into an excellent race. First we would like to talk about our visit from Barrie Ann George and her son Trent. Barrie Ann is the Capitol Region representative for Big Brothers/ Big Sisters. They both had a great day as track staff and racers showed them what we do each race day at Quarter Aces. We will have a big group of Big Brothers/ Big Sisters coming out to the track for the day with the tentative date of July 26th.More info on this event to come soon.
Now to the racing, in James Coyle Hydraulic Repair Super class Bill Wilkinson current points leader stretched his lead with a dead on the dial 6.83 e.t. at 99 mph to win out over Walt Little in his "Just for Fun" Dodge Charger. Third place driver was Ken Carr.
Harbold's Garage and Trailer Sales Bike division had Joe Nonemaker running his fastest run all day, 5.76 @ 116 mph over a red lighting Robert Huff. Dylan Griffey took third spot.
Keith's Pit Stop Pro class was won by Andy Wildasin over Lee Chronister. Both drivers were tough all day. Lester Holtzapple took third place.

In Special Event EMS Service junior dragster Chesney Gosnell got the big win over runner up Nikki Bennett. Steve Gosnell and Tre Brown made the semis. We had good close races throughout the junior dragster group. Chesney's big win came at the expense of her brother Steve, as brother and sister faced off in the semis. Nikki Bennett's run in the final was barely red-.003. That's close.
Street Legal Eliminator sponsored by SGS Automotive had Jeff Doster Jr. taking the win on a dead on 9.06 e.t. over Bill Johnson. Seth Birks took third place.
Dylan's Restaurant and Lounge Masters challenge was won by Wayne Donoho winning over Dale Greenly. Dan Lightner was third.
And finally in our second Wide Open-Flat Out class sponsored by Brad Rodgers @ Brookside Motors we had four cars. We ran the finals as a best two out of three, with Bill Perkins and his hard launching quick Mustang taking two straight over Zach Gross. Perkins ripped several 5.80 runs at 118 mph, on small tires the car launched hard, 1.26 60 ft. times and front wheels well in the air. Brian Orwig and Joe Boyaitt took semis. Our races fans seem love these cars, watch as this class grows and becomes a big part of the show once a month. Thanks Booze Brothers Racing and SGS Automotive guys for your support today. Thanks Brad Rodgers for your help with class all year long!
A big thank you to the Used Car Doctor, Mt. Holly Springs, Bill Gordon, a sponsor/ partner for supplying a floor jack for us. We really appreciate the gift!!

6/15/09 Let's start with the racer that had the best day out of everyone at Quarters Aces today. In Special Event EMS Junior Dragster class Danielle Manilli defeated the current points leader Danielle Williams in final, but that's only part of the story, in round two Danielle Manilli cut a perfect .000 light AND ran dead on her 8.91 with a zero, a dead perfect run! What a great day for this excellent racer! Claudia Powers and Eric Swiger made the semis.
MANDRA racers showed up in force with Chris Righetti winning the A divison over Barry Mackin and Brian Freels defeating Jim Shearer in the B division. The overall MANDRA winner was Brian Freels in his cool Jungle Jim tribute Nova over Chris Righetti.
The Junior Stock class had some excellent racing with John Wise in his Buick taking out Charlie Inherst behind the wheel of his '66 Chevy Bel Air. Third place went to Randy Campbell.

Once again our racers and all the MANDRA racers put on another excellent show for all our race fans. Don't know what to do next Sunday for entertainment? Come on out and spend your day with us at Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way. Also, nice job by Bill Ebright making all of his required license runs today, a string of 5.80 runs, all done well. Not so good was Mike Strickler making his time run and having a converter failure and major oil down, track crew cleaned up the oil quickly so we could go back to racing. Mike did a great job of pulling over quickly and the oil down was minimized. He'll be back soon.
Next Sunday, SGS Automotive Street Legal Eliminator, Dylan's Resturant and Lounge Masters Challenge and Brad Rodgers @ Brookside Motors Wide Open Flat Out cars will be with us at Quarter Aces. Lastly, a big thanks to Alan Lesher of Auto Seat Cover Company for coming onboard as a sponsor/ partner. Check out his website for all his products and services. See you Sunday!!!

6/08/09 After a disappointing rain out on Friday of the All Ford Nationals we came back Sunday to fine weather to go racing. A big turn out of race fans and many Ford cars entered the event along some of regular racers in non Ford race cars. We had a number of racers going with time runs only. Out of the SGS Automotive shop Zach Gross made his required NHRA license runs in his supercharged Mustang. All of his runs were in the low 6.0 ets. @ 115 to 116 mph. A great car, it hooked and ran straight all day long. Want your car to run like this? Talk to the gang at SGS. Also Dave Guy had his Drag Radial killer fast Mustang car in the house. On his second pass he blazed the tires all the way down the 660. Dave was unable to make a full run, but trust us, this is one bad hot rod! Dave will be out again and no doubt will lay down some big numbers.
This coming Sunday, June 14 the MANDRA gang will invade Quarter Aces with a lot of Nostalgia drag cars, 1972 and older stuff. How about Junior Stock? This the first time we have run this class with MANDRA. Rules are pretty simple. 5/31/09 Nice weather greeted our racers and race fans at Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way. For the first time we had Wide-Open Flat-Out cars presented by Brad Rodgers, @ Brookside Motors. In the final, Jeff Gabriel in his 70 Chevelle won two straight over Larry Swietzer piloting his 74 Chevy Nova small block powered car. The first round was a pedal fest as both nitrous assisted cars starting blowing off the tires at the 330 ft. stripe. Jeff Gabriel's 6.80 e.t. at 92 mph just got by Larry Sweitzer's 6.92 e.t. at 97 mph. The next run was a much better run as Jeff's Chevelle ran a stout 6.17 e.t at 119 mph to get around Larry's 6.41 e.t. at 110 mph. The WFO cars will be back on June 21, don't miss them!
Jeff Doster Jr. took the win in Street Legal Eliminator sponsored by SGS Automotive. Butch Dunn was the runnerup. Third place went to the driveline breaking Andy Ney.
Special Event EMS Junior Dragsters had several story lines going. Erin Warner had trouble with her car in the second round of time runs but once dad got the car straightened out, Erin never looked back winning the class over the excellent effort of the ten-year old Chesney Gosnell. Danielle Williams and Megan Culbert went to the semis. Danielle had won four straight races and with her semi-final finish today had won nineteen straight rounds of competition! That is certainly some fine driving on her part. All of our junior drivers were very tough today, over half the drivers in the first round of time runs had reaction times of teens or better. It doesn't get much better than that!
Super Pro cars, presented by James Coyle Hydraulic Repair had Lance Kreiger taking the win over veteran Gene Schneck in a double breakout affair, Lance was out by .01 and Gene 0.6. Mark Coover had his best finish this season coming in third.
Harbold's Garage and Trailer Sales Bike class was won by Harv Philumalee who beat an out of shape run by Howard Gibbs. Wes Garman and Joe Nonemaker made it to the semi-finals.
Keith's Pit Stop Pro action was won by Wayne Skelly who ran a .01 off the dial 6.49 e.t. at 100 mph to Joe Yeaple's .04 off the dial 7.47 e.t. at 89 mph. Rob Roberts and Andy Wildasin got to the final four.
Mcnew's Automotive Street class was won by Joe Wetzel who took out last Monday's winner Steven Greenplate in a double break out race. Earl Smith and Brittany Jones were third and fourth. By the way Brittany Jones is now the current points-leader in street.
Bowhunters Superstore Trophy winner was Greg Cook beating Wayne Donoho in another of many double breakout races. Daryl Mcnew and Steve Long were in the semis.
And finally the hard luck Brian Dubbs beat Bill Gordon in Trindle Auto Sales and Service Sport Compact class. Bill has hurt a bunch of driveline stuff this year in his VW. Hopefully his luck is changing.
Don't forget, this Friday, our big All Ford Nationals presnted by Carlisle Events will be contestedat Quarter Aces. Track opens at 1:00 pm. No open header cars fired up until 1:30 pm. Time trials at about 3:00 pm and eliminations between 5:30 and 6:00. You don't miss this event!! I will be out at the fairgrounds until about 1:00 pm. Stop out and say hi! I'll be at space P-46.
5/26/09 The long Memorial Day weekend started out with a racers picnic on Saturday afternoon. Lots of food prepared by the track and brought in by our racers plus plenty of bench racing made an enjoyable day proceeding the two days of drag racing to come. The big story on Sunday had to be the James Coyle Hydraulic Repair Super winner Jack Wheatley's big win. After not racing his S-10 Chevy truck for nine years, Jack came out to make time runs only. But after one run he thought "why not jump over into Super and see what happens." By the end of the day, all Jack did was run a string of low 6.60s to ran the table, taking out Lester Holtzapple in the final and then defeating Earl Smith for the King of the Hill trophy at the end of the day. Jack was all smiles at the end of the day, imagine that!
Keith's Pit Stop Pro Winner Wayne Skelly beat points leader Frank Giallonardo in the final 6.52 @104 to a 6.76 @ 99, another close race. Semi drivers were Bob Bair and Dennis Kroft.
In Harbold's Garage and Trailer Sales Bike class Robert Huff had the big day on his '06 V-Rod. Steady low 6 second passes all day long did the trick, his 6.21 @109 pass was enough to take out Dylan Griffey's fast sled who trailed with a 6.13 e.t. 3rd and 4th place riders were Harv Philumalee and Danny Boyer.
McNew's Automotive Street Winner was Earl Smith and Runner up was Brittany Jones who barely went red in the final. Stan Crum and the points leader Randy Brownawell were the semifinalists.
Our Bowhunters Superstore Trophy winner was Chris Seaman who defeated Larry Baish who was driving Dale Greenly's '60 Chevy "Cherry Bomb". Megan Glatfelter and Greg Cook took the semis. How about Larry Baish who hasn't driven much in the last two years, reaching the final in a strange car, cutting good lights all day and nearly going the distance. Larry still knows how to do this!
Danielle Williams wins again for the third week in a row in a close race defeating last years defending Special Event EMS Junior Dragster champ Tessa Sheaffer. 8.01 to a 7.95 e.t. Mikayla Warner and Steven Henry III were third and fourth.
Gamblers race action had twenty cars and at the end Dale Greenly defeated Lester Holtzapple, Jason Staub took third place.
After all the excellent racing on Sunday, we all came back to do it again on Monday. To start the off, Dan and Claire Laterza, our Div. One Racers for Christ representatives, started the day off with a chapel service on the bleachers around 10:00 a.m. They stayed most all day and enjoyed hanging out with all of us. They will be back on Labor Day!
The event for the day was the featured $500.00 Junior Dragster Shootout. Also a Consolation Race was held for all the first round losers. Another $150.00 was raised by some very generous people, namely Dodd Williams Garage, Reggie Murphy, Sandy and Terry Sheaffer and track owner Stanley Dye. All racers received some money. There were no losers here today! A big thank you to all who participated or helped out with this race. A total of twenty four cars made the first round. Danielle Williams again was the big winner, making it tough for her was runner up Taylor Philumalee. Danielle ran a dead on 7.92 e.t to Taylor's 10.18 on a 10.13 dial. Skyler Stump ran a strong third place finish. The consolation race had Kelsey Hershey winning over the breaking out Megan Culbert, Mikayla Warner took third.
Moving to James Coyle Hydraulic Repair Super Class, many time track champ Bill Wilkinson held off the hard charging Mustang of Dan Lightner. Brian Kuhn and Rick Hornberger were the semifinalists.
Keith's Pit Stop Pro had Rob Roberts winning out over Lester Holtzapple with a dead on the dial 8.11 to Lester's 6.90 on a 6.88 dial. Rob was excellent all day, he did join our points recently and is one of the top shelf foot brake racers anywhere. Watch him move up the points ladder in a hurry. Wayne Skelly was third. Along with his win on Sunday Wayne had a solid weekend of racing.
Neil Senft came out for the first time with us this year and performed very well taking the win over Robert Huff in Harbold's Garage and Trailer Sales Bike/Sled/Four Wheeler class. Howard Gibbs took third.
McNew's Automotive Street was won by Steven Greenplate in his Camaro defeating Earl Smith who went red by .001. Randy Brownawell and Brittany Jones took the semis.
And finally in Bowhunters Superstore Trophy Steve Long won out over Dale Greenly. Stacey Rodgers won third.
Wow, what a weekend! Thanksto all of our racers, race fans, sponsors and track employees who made it happen!
About next week, Brad Rodgers at Brookside Motors is presenting our first Wide-Open Flat Out event. Heads up fast street cars invade Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way. Also SGS Automotive Street Legal Eliminator will be contested, we had a nice turn out of these cars back in April and look forward to more this time out. Remember, $500.00 is the purse for this class. Registration, proof of insurance, DOT tires and mufflers required. Also a thank you to Amy Erb, a long time racer with us will help us at the back gate on race days. Welcome aboard Amy.
5/18/09
Hard rains Saturday night and slow to clear skies Sunday morning caused a bit of late start to the racing this weekend. Once we got underway Quarter Aces racers put on a good show as always. First off, a big thank you to the staff from Universal Technical Institute for spending the day with us and sponsoring our high school race and big 6 ft. trophy challenge. Tim Holtzapple will represent us at the bracket finals at Maple Grove Raceway in the fall. In the Bowhunters Superstore trophy class presented by UTI was won by Wayne Donoho defeating Steve Long in the final. Tim Holtzapple and Kevin Beidel were the semi final drivers. For Wayne's work, he received the 6 ft. trophy, a $50.00 gift certificate from Lincoln Speed & Custom of Abbottstown Pa. and a Bowhunters Superstore t-shirt. Steve's runner-up got him a 3 ft. trophy and a $25.00 gift certificate from Lincoln Speed & Custom. Another big trophy event is scheduled for October. More details to follow.
East Coast Gassers were in the house this weekend and they too put on a show. Randy Campbell's newly completed 1950 Studebaker cranked out a 7.80 @ 89 mph to by the hard charging 1951 chevy driven by Greg Grubel with an 6.22 et @ 104 mph. Third place went to Pete Boyer and his '39 Chevy.
Todd Thoman driving his wheel standing '81 Malibu took home the money in James Coyle Hydraulic Repair super eliminator with 6.60 on a 6.57 dial to take out Steve Hurley piloting his sharp '55 Chevy super stocker who went 7.34 on a 7.33 dial. Chris Powers took third. Talk about a fast car, Chris Power's S & W dragster pounded out several 4.70 passes with a best of 4.76 at 147 mph. Sixty foot times all were in the 1.05. to 1.06 range. The car just works.
In Keith's Pit Stop pro division, Dave Dissinger drove his beautiful Vega wagon to 6.57 @ 101 mph on a 6.54 dial to barely beat last weeks winner, Frank Giallonardo in his Torino wagon. Frank ran 6.59 on a 6.59 dial @101 mph. Denny Wall's 69 Z-28 Camaro was third.
After winning Mcnew's Automotive Street and Dan Lightner's Tree Service ladies challenge last week Brittany Jones again drove well and beat points leader Randy Brownawell in his Nova 8.25 to a 7.54. Both cars worked well and ran the fastest these cars have run this year. Chris Seaman placed third.
A good turn out of bikes /sleds /4 wheelers answered the call to Harbold's Garage and Trailer Sales of Dover Pa bike class. Keith Holtzapple's high five second Kawasaki ran a 5.89 on a 5.88 @114.2 to get by Joe Nonemaker's Suzuki who went 5.90 on a 5.86. Dylan Griffey and Bob Huff made the semis.
And lastly in Special Event EMS junior dragster class Danielle Williams won for the second straight weekend with a 7.95 @ 81.4 mph on a 7.94 dial to beat Mikayla Warner who ran 7.95 @ 82.0 mph on a 7.90 dial. Danielle now moves solidly into first place in the junior class. Tre Brown and Tessa Sheaffer made the final four.
We had a number of cars making time runs only this weekend. What really stood out was the fun that Mike Long was having with his nostalgia small block powered Anglia. This car hasn't seen drag strip action since the '02 season. Mike ran mid seven second passes at 93 mph. all day long. You couldn't help but tell Mike was enjoying his day getting back out on the track!
We have a full plate for the Memorial Day weekend. On Sat. the racers, race fans and sponsor picnic starting about 4 pm. Summit Point Race on Sun. with a King of the Hill to end the day. On Mon. a Summit Points Race and a Junior Dragster money race. How about a $500 purse! We will also have a first round loser bracket for juniors also. Looking forward to this coming weekend. Don't forget Sat. May 23rd will be our racer, race fan and sponsor picnic at the track, Bring snacks or covered dish etc. and hang out for day before our big two day Memorial Day Sun. and Mon. event.
Just a little correction from my last post, I stated Ken Carr won for the second time this season. Actually he was runner up on opening day and a winner this past Sunday. Oops! Can't wait till Sunday, see you at Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way
5/11/09 After last weeks rainout, a windy but sunny day greeted racers and race fans at Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way on Mother's Day. Race fans were treated to great show put on by Eric Kitchen's Pro Stick drivers. Thirty one cars answered the bell for round one and when smoke cleared it was Dan Hoyler driving his 89 Ford Mustang taking out a breaking out Dean Leyh piloting his 70 Camaro. Richard Horton and Robert Schnoke were the semi final drivers. A big pat on the the back to the whole Pro Stick gang for putting on a great show from start to finish, they will be back in October!
Moving on to James Coyle Hydraulic Repair super eliminator, Ken Carr scored his second win of the '09 season beating a breaking out Jason Staub of SGS Automotive with a 5.92 to a .03 under 6.02. Gene Reynold and Ed Reese were third / fourth drivers.
Keith's Pit Stop pro was dominated by Frank Giallanardo pushing his Torino wagon 6.64 on a 6.63 dial getting around the break out run of Brandon Wentzel who had dialed 8.63 but ran an 8.61. Fred Shipley ran well all day and snatched a third place finish.
McNew's Automotive street class was won by Brittany Jones with 8.12 on an 8.10 dial to hold off Earl Smith's Malibu in the final. Randy Brownawell and veteran racer Bruce Suders made it to the semifinals.
The bikes / sleds / four wheeler class sponsored by Harbold's Garage and Trailer Sales of Dover Pa was won by Steve Bennett ripping a 5.68 to take out the break out run of Bob Huff riding his Harley V-Rod. Jen Philumalee and Brad Glunt made it to the final four. By the way Steve Bennet laid down a 5.43 at 127 mph earlier in the day. Talk about a quick sled!
This weeks winner in Bowhunters Superstore trophy division was Chris Seaman narrowly defeating Tim Anthony who barely broke out. Joe Rhinehart and Ron Lebo made to the semis.
Dylan's Restaurant and Lounge of East Berlin Pa's Masters challenge was won by Dale Greenly, Terry Smith was the runner up driver. Wayne Donoho finished out third.
And finally, on Mother's Day, Brittany Jones showed no mercy to her mom in the finals of ladies challenge. Brittany ran 8.19 on an 8.10 to Kathy's 7.93 on a 7.60 dial. Megan Glatfelter and Denyce DeLorenzo were the semi finalists. Also a big thank you to Dan Lightner Tree Service for stepping up and sponsoring ladies challenge for the 2009 season. Also Dale Greenly and Wayne Donoho are also on board to sponsor with Dan in ladies challenge.
Next week we have the gang from Universal Technical Institute sponsoring our one and only High School Challenge. Winner represents us at the bracket finals in the fall. The big trophy event will also go off next Sunday where the winner gets a 6 ft. trophy and runner up a 3 footer. Also gift certificates from Lincoln Speed and Custom for the winner and runner up in the trophy division. UTI students get in free with student ID. Come out and spend your day with us at Quarter Aces! Also a big thank you to Dave McMeans for sharing the announcing duties with me!
5/4/09 Don't forget this Sunday, May 10th, Mothers Day, is a race day event you won't want to miss. This past Sundays Pro Stick event was rained out but Eric Kitchen's Pro Stick gang will return to the Quarter Aces eighth mile this Sunday. Ladies Challenge will be contested and also we will run our Masters Challenge for our 50 year old and up racers. Simple rules for this class, DOT tires required and no electronics. This class is sponsored by Dylan's Restaurant and Lounge in East Berlin, Pa. Also race #4 of the Summit Bracket Race Series will be contested.
On Sunday, May 17th the Gang from Universal Technical Institute will be with us for our one and only High School Challenge. The winner of this class represents us at Maple Grove in the fall to battle it out amongst the high school champion drivers from the other Division One NHRA member tracks. Along with the high school event, we also will run our big 6ft. trophy class event. Winner, a 6 ft. trophy, runner up a 3 ft. trophy. Also any UTI student racers will have their own trophy class. First round winners get a trophy and winner of the class, a big trophy. UTI students that just come out to watch get in at no charge, Student I. D. gets you in the gate. We certainly thank the staff at Universal Technical Institute, Exton, Pa campus for sponsoring this race. All high school students are welcome to try for the High School Challenge Championship. Who's up to the
Challenge?
Lets talk a bit about time runs and license runs. Do you have a car you have just put together or maybe you want to get a lot of runs in one day. Maybe you are making changes to a car; want to try different things and see how the car responds or maybe you have two drivers sharing the car. We charge only $25.00 to make time runs only. You make each round of time runs with class cars, usually three passes. Once eliminations start we get you a run with the first round of eliminations but then as eliminations continue we get you back in lanes several more times. Most times our racers can get seven or eight passes without a problem. This is a lot more than most places will allow. A good deal for new drivers or those just want to make laps. How about running for your NHRA license. Have you tried this at other tracks, this might take you two days. Again only $25.00, and get all your runs in one day! Be ready to run quicker than 6.40 e.t.! We love to see those racers choosing us for their license runs!
One more treat this weekend. Helping me in tower will be one of top shelf announcers anywhere, Dave McMeans. We have worked together over the years at LODRS events and past Bracket Finals all over Division One. Dave did work here with us in 2005 but since then he has been driving and announcing in the dirt track scene. If you're not familiar with Dave, I know you'll enjoy hearing him work.
Lastly, Stanley Dye and crew did a bit more paving and excavating last week. The track and grounds look the best they have ever looked! Pat on the back to Stan and his crew! See you at the track this Sunday!
5/3/09
Today's event has been called due to rain. Please join us next week for the Pro Stick Rain Date as well as Ladies Challenge and Masters Challenge.
See you next week at Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way.
4/27/09
Midsummer weather greeted racers and race fans at Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way on the SGS Automotive Street Legal Eliminator Day and Summit Points race number two. Again Special Event EMS Junior Dragster Class had an excellent field and tough close racing all day. At the end it was Colby Imes getting by Nikki Bennett in the final as both cars ran out with 7.89's on 7.90 dial ins. Mikayla Warner and Chesney Gosnell were semi finalists. This was only Chesney's second time out as a junior dragster pilot and did well getting to the semis.
James Coyle Super Eliminator was won by Rick Hornberger as he took out veteran Gene Schneck. Rick was nearly flawless all day running on the dial on a couple of runs on the way to his win. Gary Laird was third. By the way we wish the best to Gary Laird and last weeks Super winner Lance Kreiger as they head south to Virginia to compete in Super Gas.
Keith's Pit Stop Pro cars had some tough close racing with Ken Mallow with his 68 Camaro running the table with great lights and a one off the dial 6.20 in the final against Garrett Suders who was five off his dial running a 7.20. Chris Crawford and Bob Crum made it the semi finals.
In McNew's Automotive Street class Randy Brownawell's Chevy Nova out gunned the field with 7.66 on a 7.65 dial to defeat Jeff Doster Jr. driving the 65 Dodge. Jeff was two under his dial with a 9.00 run. Chris Seaman and Steven Greenplate made it the semis.
Bowhunter's Inc Trophy class was won by Erik Kopp in his Malibu taking out the way under the dial attempt from Clair Delancy's unusual 64 Rambler, Erik went 6.95 on a 6.94, Clair went 8.04 on an 8.20. Darrell Wanish was a third place finisher.
In Bike / Sled / 4 Wheeler action Harv Philumalee Jr. got past Mike Jones for a win running a 6.33 on a 6.28 dial in. Wes Garman and Jen Philumalee made it to the final four. There is always at least one extremely close well run race each race day and Sunday was no exception, in round two, Mike Jones laid down a perfect .000 light and was one off the dial while Chris Zarichansky was right there with an .015 light and a dead on the dial run, this shook out at a margin of victory of .0003 for Mike Jones. Talk about close! That was a good one.
In the Trindle Auto Sales and Service Sport Compact class John Winisko's 05 Neon was closer to his dial in then runnerup Shane Lockett, behind the wheel of his Mitsubihi. The winning e.t. 11.24 to 10.26. Brian Dubbs was third in his wheel standing VW beetle.
Lastly in SGS Automotive Street Legal Eliminator, Andy Ney was nearly perfect on the tree as he defeated one of the SGS cars driven by Jason Kreiser. Andy was in the 7.40s all day long and ran a 7.46 in final. Steve Brough drove his stick Firebird to a third place finish.
A nice group of race fans attended this event, but wait until next week as Eric Kitchen's Pro Stick racers head to Boiling Springs to battle it out on the Quarter Aces eighth mile. These cars are as entertaining as it gets so mark your calenders for Sunday May 3rd. Last year over 40 cars made the program, bet we have more on Sunday. We are still making improvements to our track, ongoing projects include widening the road up the hill on the spectator side. Keep checking our website! See you Sunday!
4/20/09
Opening day at Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way was certainly a good one for all our racers and race fans. The day started with our Special Event EMS junior dragsters. Sixteen cars made up the class with drivers cutting great lights throughout the three time runs and during eliminations also. Erin Warner started her year off right by winning the junior dragster division with a winning e.t. of 8.02 on her 8.02 dial defeating Eric Swiger who made it close with a one off the dial 8.98. Danielle Williams and Taylor Philumalee were the semi finalists. James Coyle Hydraulic Repair super eliminator also had good racing in that division. Lance Kreiger got his season underway with a big win, a 5.37 on 534 dial taking out Ken Carr who ran 5.93 on his 5.88 dial. Jason Staub's street legal mustang ran 6.0's all day long was the third place driver. In bike / sled / 4 wheeler action Steven Myers took an easy ride as Fred Mason's four wheeler lurched through beams and redlighted. Brad Glunt finished up his day as the third place rider.
In Keith's Pit Stop pro class, last years track champ Lester Holtzapple had a very close match up with Joe Yeaple. Lester had a slightly better light and drove around Joe's dead on the dial run. Frank Giallanardo's wheel standing torino wagon put him in as a third place finisher. McNew's Automotive street class was won by Chris Seaman's .03 over the dial 9.81 over P J Anavitarte who was .07 off his dial. Stan Crum finished out third place. Bowhunters Inc trophy eliminator was won by Tim Anthony driving his excellent 86 camaro. Winning e.t. was an 8.39 against Burt Sharp's powerful supercharged mustang who broke out with a 7.10 e.t on 7.14 dial. Don't forget next week is the Street Legal Eliminator sponsored by SGS Automotive of Dillsburg Pa. Simple rules for this class, biggest deal here your car must be street legal, You'll need registration and proof of insurance, DOT tires, run through the mufflers, no faster than 6.40. They payout goes to first, runnerup and semis, a $500.00 purse. In two weeks, May 3rd, we have the Pro Stick cars in the house, check out last years photos on our website, giant wheel stands and great close racing is what you will see on May 3rd. A big thank you to all that spent the day with us at Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way !

4/5/09 Beautiful weather greeted racers and race fans at Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way on our preseason picnic / test and tune. We started out with a picnic with sandwiches supplied by the track and great side dishes and desserts brought in by our many racers and race fans. About 12:30 p.m. racing got under way. The track came around very quickly and everyone's cars hooked and ran well. Many of our partner / sponsors were there also. We also talked to others that are showing an interest in our program for this year. Big news came from Tom Alleman owner of Special Event Emergency Medical Services. His company sponsors our Junior Dragster program. For the 2009 season the Junior Dragster Champion, will be awarded a $1,000.00 U.S. Savings Bond at our awards banquet. Also any Junior Dragster Driver that has a perfect .000 light in eliminations and wins the round receives $100.00. This will certainly add some excitement to our excellent Junior Dragster Program. We are soon getting ready perform our paving project, weather permitting. Also our tech building will soon be delivered. Landscaping by K & M Landscaping, East Berlin, will handle planting shrubbery around our new flag pole in the next week or two. Don't forget opening day, points start Sunday, April 19th. Track staff and helpers were out in force Saturday and Sunday to complete more projects to get ready for opening day, April 5th. On Saturday eight sections of seating was moved down near the tower. The metal bracing for the seats were sanded and painted . The area just past the tower will soon be graded and stoned and the seating can then be positioned and elevated and moved a bit closer to the guard rail for excellent viewing for our spectators. More general cleaning was also performed on Saturday. Sunday was a damp and dreary day but good enough to remove all the fencing past the bridge on the pit side to make way for the big paving project in the next two weeks. Eventually triple guard rail will be installed all the way down to were the fence ended. A new tech building was purchased from E & A Wood Creations of Thomasville Pa. This building will located about where tech was last season and will sit on asphalt. This is a nice edition to the track.
Don't forget chassis certification is on Saturday, March 28th starting at 9:00 am. If you arrive early bring your car and trailer into the staging lanes. The NHRA tech staff can perform the check right in your trailer, Please don't start any open header cars that day. We have 18 cars signed up already, any questions call Kathy Jones, 717-266-2968. Also Extended Tech Inspection is offered the same day, cost, $10.00, this covers paying of the tech staff, we'll have free coffee and snacks that day also. It's getting close! Sunday April is coming up fast! Opening day is a test & tune day and maybe a gamblers race also, we'll see how the day goes. Remember if you have a business, being a sponsor / partner with us at Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way can help you, ask Brad Rodgers at Brookside Motors! Call me, Mike Bassin 717-259-7996 anytime. We will be at the track working again this coming weekend on more projects.
3/7/09 Great weather greeted staff and volunteers this weekend at Quarter Aces. The work on the driveway on the spectator side continues, all the trees are cut down up past the top of the hill, wood hauled out and brush cleaned up and burnt, next step will be to remove the stumps and grade and widen the roadway to make it two lanes wide. The ticket booth will be moved to the top of the hill also. Major clean up was performed both days, the old food trailer now moved away and the food court area totally cleaned up. Two trenches were dug and burying cables that were once above ground now completed. More scrapping and painting of guard rail was also performed. By the way, we would love to get paint on guard rails at least to the finish line by opening day, any volunteers out there? Call Kathy Jones 717-318-3180 for days we'll be at the track. More wiring near the tower and food stand was also performed this weekend. Up next will be leveling and stoning the ground on the tower side to the bridge for new seating. These next four weeks will be busy ones for all of us as we get ready for the test & tune day on Sunday April 5th! Can't Wait!

Just an update from Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way since the end of the 2008 racing season.
Track improvements will continue during the off season. Guard rails were installed on the return road to the E.T. booth two weeks ago. Stanley Dye and crew removed the old asphalt on the return road adjacent to the track. Preparation is already underway to pave the return road from above the E.T. booth to the staging lanes. This work should be able to be completed in time for opening day if the weather cooperates. Four sets of bleachers like the ones we already have were purchased and are at the track, we will clean up all of the ones we already have and the newly acquired ones as well. That will give us thirteen sets of bleachers, they will be installed on both sides of the track and elevated a bit for better viewing. Seating will accommodate 750 spectators. We are also working on attaining a state of the art Altalab Co. weather station with LED display which will be on the timing tower easily seen from starting line area, we have a sponsor lined up to supply this equipment. Other projects will also be ongoing on the facility during the off season as time and weather permit. More to follow on track updates as we get to them.
Speaking of sponsors, just signed on yesterday is Universal Technical Institute of Exton, Pa. These folks are the top ranked automotive training school in the U.S. having campuses all over the country. They will sponsor a High School Challenge race and two big trophy events with 6 ft. and 3 ft. trophies for winner and runner up. Dates to be named later, a big thank you to Christian Belko and the gang at UTI for coming on board.
Speaking of sponsors, many of you were helpful in getting us connected to prospective sponsors in 2008. We need the same efforts in 2009! If you or someone you know may be interested in sponsor / partnering with us, contact me Mike Bassin, ph # 717-259-7996 or email mjbassin@verizon.net .Also our banquet will soon be upon us. Any door prizes you can supply would be helpful. Big or small items, one or many, all appreciated!
A new staff member has joined us. In tech we have added Bill Belden of W. York. Bill was an NHRA Division One tech official for many years. He races a 1976 Chevy Nova I/S four speed stick at Div. One events and raced in the Pro stick event in Oct. 2008 at our track. A great addition to the staff at Quarter Aces.
In closing, everyone have a great holiday, we will keep you informed of any news about Quarter Aces Drag-O-Way!
